I looked to the Psalms of Ascent yesterday. I like them because they are songs that the Israelites sang while they were climbing mountains. It was dangerous and difficult. The words are practical (He will not let your foot slip), but at the same time they are metaphorical. I am memorizing Psalm 121. It reminds me of the steadiness of God when the world around me is in chaos:
I lift my eyes up to the hills-
where does my help come from?
My help comes from You, Maker of heaven and earth
He will not let your foot slip,
he who watches over you will not slumber.
Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep
The Lord watches over you-
He is the shade at your right hand;
The sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm-
He will watch over your life;
The Lord will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
